What we record, and how to stop it
We count how the site is used so we can make it better. We never know who you are.
What is recorded
- Which pages, puzzles and games are opened, which card on a front page was tapped, and how long a page stays open.
- For articles: how far down you scrolled, which charts came into view, and the website names of any sources you opened.
- For puzzles: when you start and finish, whether you solved it, the time taken, and how many checks, hints or reveals you used.
- For games: when a round starts and ends, whether you won, and how far you got.
- The website you came from (its name only), and whether you're on a phone, tablet or computer.
To tell one visit from the next, your browser keeps a random code. It is not linked to your name, email or anything else about you.
What is never recorded
Your name, email address, IP address, precise location, what you type, or your puzzle answers. There is no advertising and no data is sold or shared with anyone else.
Where it is kept
On a Supabase database in London. Detailed records are kept for 13 months, then reduced to daily totals.
Switch it off
One tap stops all recording on this browser and deletes its random code. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, recording is already off.
Your rights and contact
Because we don't know who you are, we usually can't find records that belong to you. If you have a question or complaint, email CONTACT_EMAIL. You can also contact the Information Commissioner's Office.
